
International Conference on Stigma 2025: Beyond the Labels: Living and Thriving
The 16th Annual International Conference on Stigma was held as a hybrid conference from Tuesday November 18, 2025 – Thursday, November 20, 2025. The first two days were virtual, with the final day at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C. (and available virtually). The theme was “Beyond the Labels…Living and Thriving.” The event explored the impacts of health-related stigma and research and advocacy interventions to combat stigma. Topics included HIV, sickle cell disease, mental health, epilepsy and more. The event also included scientific posters, an art contest and raffles. Recorded sessions will be available soon.
Travel
Due to limited parking, we highly recommend public transportation or Cab/Ride sharing to Howard University Hospital. There will also be some parking available.
How to get to Howard University Hospital VIA Metro: Take the Green Line Metro to Shaw/Howard University. Exit at the side toward Howard University. Once you reach ground level, walk straight out of the station and continue about 2.5 blocks north to Howard University Hospital on your right. Alternatively, when you exit the metro, there will be a bus stand to your left. Please wait for the Howard University Shuttle Bus which stops every 10 – 15 minutes. Board the bus by showing your state issued ID. Once you board the bus, please let the bus driver know that you will be getting off at Howard University Hospital (first stop).
If you drive, the closest parking option is the front (Georgia Ave) or Back (5th St) of Howard University Hospital. Howard University Hospital address: 2041 Georgia Ave. NW. Washington, DC 20060. Parking rates are $7 for 2 hours or $15 daily max (subject to change). If by chance both of these lots are full or you are seeking a cheaper daily option, you can park at the Howard Center lot. This is located at 2024 Georgia Ave, NW (Across from the Chase Bank), however you must enter the lot from the back 8th St. entrance (drive around behind the McDonalds). This lot costs a flat rate of $10, pay CASH ONLY on entry. However if you like you can reserve/pay in advance by visiting: https://runparking.com and entering: 2235 8th St NW Howard Center in the search. From here you will walk to the right/south on Georgia Ave, and cross the street to the hospital about 2 blocks down.
NOTE TO INTERNATIONAL TRAVELERS: We welcome International attendees, but unfortunately cannot provide any international travel scholarships. You would need to fund your own travel and stay. We also cannot assist you with making travel arrangements. We are not issuing any additional letters for visa applications at this time. You are also welcome to attend virtually.
