
2011 Stigma Conference
The 2nd Annual International Conference on Stigma was held at Howard University Blackburn Center on Thursday December 1, 2011. This was an action packed day of keynotes, plenary sessions, panels, workshops, networking, entertainment and more. The Hon. Eleanor Holmes Norton gave a welcome. Carissa Cameron, the 2010 Miss America moderated a session, “What Does HIV Stigma Look Like?’ Speakers included Anne Stangl and Vanessa Johnson. Three break out sessions were offered includin one Moderated y Erin Yeagley, entitled, “Stigma and Access to Treatment in the Triple Diagnosed: HIV, Substance Abuse and Mental Illness.” This was followed b y a Best Proactices plenary sessioin which included Deepa Rao of the University of Washington. A Howard University Stident performed a spoken word piece. Top funders included Gilead Sciences, DC DOH, DC CFAR, and NASTAD.
