
2010 Stigma Conference
The FIRST EVER International Conference on Stigma was held at Howard University Cramton Auditorium on Friday December 1, 2010. This was an action packed day of keynotes, plenary sessions, panels, workshops, networking, entertainment and more. Gregorio Millet, from the White House Office on National AIDS Policy brought greetings. Speakers included Peter Gamache, Laurie Bauman, Leickness Simbayi from South Africa, Suniti Soloman form India, Li Li, Chris Beyrer, Laura Nyblade, and Sohail Rana. Willow Pequegnat from NIH moderated and was instumental in coordinating the event. Afternoon workshops addressed Faith, Stigma Effects on Families, Stigma Effects on Youth, Criminalization, and Reducing Stigma in Healthcare settings. Emcees and coordinators were Lisa Bediako, Patty Houston, Erin Yeagley, Sohail Rana and the IMPAACT Community Advisory Board. Top funders included NIH and Howard University. A fundraising Gala was held in November before the event, organized by Caroline Reed.
